MORE DETAILS
About the Role
The Content Director role is a senior, client-facing position that sits at the center of everything written that leaves this agency. You will own the full content function: strategy and execution across multiple B2B clients, long-form content production, contracted writer management, and the editorial standards that keep quality consistent at scale. This is not a purely strategic role, especially not at first. You will write, review, brief, and deliver alongside the team while also building the workflows and systems that progressively shift your time from producing content to directing it. If you have deep experience in B2B content, strong editorial instincts, and a practical grasp of how AI fits into content workflow, we want to talk.
What You’ll Own
Content Strategy & Direction
- Lead content strategy for the agency's B2B clients across industries, including SaaS, manufacturing, financial services, and construction.
- Develop and maintain content plans, editorial calendars, and performance frameworks aligned to each client’s goals.
- Contribute to Marketing Action Plans (MAPs) and present content strategy confidently to clients during strategy sessions and QBRs.
- Conduct and apply keyword research, competitive analysis, and audience insights to inform content direction.
- Identify content optimization opportunities and ensure recommendations get acted on.
- Track and report on content performance across clients, identifying what is working, what is not, and surfacing recommendations for improvement.
- Own and contribute to LAIRE (the agency) content, including blogs, thought leadership, and premium content offers, in coordination with the team member who manages the editorial calendar.
Content Production & Editing
- Build detailed editorial outlines that give writers everything they need to produce excellent content with minimal back-and-forth: target keyword, content structure, section-by-section guidance, relevant source material, internal link suggestions, and SEO notes.
- Oversee all long-form content output across clients. Most content is produced through contracted writers. You will write directly for quick-turn needs or where contractor handoff is not practical.
- Quality-control all content output: you are the final gate before anything goes to a client.
- Conduct or coordinate client interviews to fuel deep-dive, expert-led content.
- Develop and maintain brand voice documentation for each client.
Contractor Management
- Manage and coordinate a team of contracted writers, providing clear briefs, timely feedback, and quality oversight.
- Match the right writer to the right project based on brand fit, industry expertise, and content type.
- Onboard new writers and maintain high standards across the extended team.
AI-Powered Content Operations
- Champion AI-forward content workflows across the team, using tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini to increase efficiency without compromising quality.
- Build and document repeatable AI-assisted processes for research, outlining, drafting, editing, and engine optimization.
- Actively elevate the broader LAIRE team’s AI content capabilities through knowledge-sharing and practical guidance.
- Help clients understand the value and application of AI-informed content strategy.
- Stay at the forefront of how AI is changing search, content consumption, and content production.
SEO (& AIO, GEO, AEO)
- Ensure all content is optimized for both traditional search engines and AI-driven answer engines.
- Own keyword research, content gap analysis, and SEO performance tracking for client accounts. Facilitate SEO discussions with account managers and clients, and handle quarterly reporting on search performance.
- Stay current on algorithm changes, AI search developments, and evolving best practices in engine optimization.
Who You Are
You may be a great fit if you have:
- 8+ years of content marketing experience, with significant time in a B2B agency environment.
- Deep experience creating editorial outlines and content frameworks that writers can execute without hand-holding.
- Hands-on, daily AI tool usage and genuine enthusiasm for how AI is reshaping content strategy and production.
- Strong engine optimization fundamentals. You understand search intent, keyword strategy, and how content surfaces in AI-driven results, including Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity, and ChatGPT Search. You factor this into how you write and brief content.
- Demonstrated experience managing freelance or contracted writers with accountability and care.
- Client-facing confidence. You can present a content strategy to a C-suite without breaking a sweat.
- The ability to fully self-manage. You take ownership, meet deadlines, and no one ever has to chase you.
- Agility under pressure. You prioritize well, go fast when needed, and stay calm when a client moves the goalposts.
- Proficiency with HubSpot or an equivalent marketing automation platform.
- Native English writing and verbal communication skills.
You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:
- You take ownership completely. People know that if it's in your hands, it's moving.
- You are collaborative by default; account managers can lean on you.
- You stay calm when things get urgent, because they will. Last-minute requests and shifting priorities are part of the job, and you handle them.
- You stay current on developments in content, AI, and search, and you bring what you learn back to the team.
- You build systems and leave every process better than you found it.
